Orange County Fair visitors can receive one free admission ticket and one carnival ride in exchange for one new children’s book for kindergarten through third grades (ages 5 to 9) in support of the Los Angeles Times’ “Reading by 9” program, according to Rotarian Marc Aarons, president of the Rotary Club of Newport-Balboa. Rotarians from Newport-Balboa, Newport Sunrise, Newport Irvine and Costa Mesa will be volunteering during three two-hour shifts today, along with Rotarians from around the county, to collect the books at admissions gates.

The volunteers will collect the books, box the books and load them onto trucks for delivery to Orange County elementary schools later this summer. On Aug. 5 fair visitors can receive a free admission ticket and one free carnival ride in exchange for the donation of one school item valued at $5 or more. Rotarians will once again be staffing the collection booths and will coordinate the distribution to local schools. For more information visit www.ocfair.com and click on “Discounts & Promotions.”
