UCI and CSULB to collaborate

As part of its ongoing efforts to pave new pathways for students in the education field, the University of California, Irvine Extension has signed an articulation agreement with California State University, Long Beach (CSULB). The partnership will grant students who complete the UC Irvine Extension Certificate Reading courses academic credit towards the CSULB Master of Arts in Education Option in Reading/Language Arts program.

“We are pleased to join forces with CSULB to provide our students with an educational pathway that leads to an advanced degree,” said Angela Jeantet, director of spa and education programs at UC Irvine Extension. “This partnership raises the bar for California teachers to obtain the best training that can be used immediately in the classrooms.”

UC Irvine Extension’s Certificate in Reading is an online reading certificate program designed to help credentialed teachers meet local, state and federal requirements that ensure all pupils have fair access to high-quality education with a foundation in reading. The Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) serves as the approving agency and issuer of the reading certificate.

This articulation agreement for the UC Irvine Extension Certificate in Reading affords students interested in the education field the opportunity to gain further education by seamlessly transferring their completed course credits into the CSULB Master of Arts in Education Specialization in Reading/Language Arts program.

“UC Irvine Extension’s Certificate in Reading is the perfect fit for students who elect to pursue an advanced degree and wish to transfer their credits over to the CSULB Master of Arts in Education Specialization in Reading/Language Arts,” said Joan Leikam Theurer, associate professor and coordinator of graduate readings programs at CSULB. “Working together, we are proud to provide continuing education and the necessary leadership skills for a field that is continually changing.”
