Historical art murals to go on sale today

Historical murals of Los Angeles will go up for sale today at the Grace Lane Gallery to raise money for the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund (MALDEF).

The opening reception will be from 5 to 8 p.m., at which time the paintings will be put on display until Sept. 30. The prices will be listed directly on each mural. MALDEF is a nonprofit civil rights organization designed to protect the rights of Latinos who live in the Unites States.

The owners of Victor Clothing Co. obtained ownership of the murals in the 1980s. MALDEF inherited them when the clothing company shut down in 2002.

There will be three murals available for purchase, each about 10 by 16 feet. Paintings and other projects will also go up for sale.
