Helane Ekdahl Joy

Helane Ekdahl Joy, 89, Past President of

the Newport Harbor/Costa Mesa Board

of Realtors, and founder/owner of Associated

Realty, passed away on August

12, 2009. She was born in St. Louis,

MO on December 11,1919. She grew

up in Santa Monica, CA and attended

University High School & the School

for Professional Children in the Arts.

She owned Helane’s Dress Shop in Phoenix, AZ before

moving to Costa Mesa/Newport Beach 46 years ago. She

was active in many community and professional organizations.

She is survived by two children, Dean A. Ekdahl, Jr.

(Angela) of Newport Beach and Temecula and Vickie

Ekdahl Bisho (Bernard) of Honolulu; 3 grandchildren; and

2 great grandchildren. Helane survived cancer surgery 33

years ago. Memorial tributes may be made to the American

Cancer Society. Respecting Helane’s wishes, her ashes will

be scattered in the ocean off Waikiki where she loved to

vacation with her family.
