A Huntington Beach motorcyclist was critically injured after driving at unsafe speeds Sunday in Westminster, officials said.

Javier Miranda, 30, was taken to UC Irvine Medical Center in critical condition with significant head trauma and broken bones, Westminster police Sgt. Mark Nye said.

Miranda was driving a red Yamaha R6 northbound on Beach Boulevard at 2:38 p.m. toward Bishop when he “corner-punched” a Scion, Nye said.

Miranda was ejected from his motorcycle, then his helmet flew off, according to witnesses, Nye said. Witnesses said Miranda was changing lanes and weaving in and out of traffic when the Scion braked to pull into a Jack in the Box parking lot, Nye said. The collision caused the Scion to spin, but the driver was unharmed.

The Westminster Police Department determined Miranda was speeding during their investigation, Nye said.
