CM Pop Warner Opens Season with Record Turnout

Strength, Honor, Discipline AND Academics. That’s football and cheerleading in Costa Mesa. Costa Mesa’s Pop Warner Football & Cheer program is taking names and breaking records this season. The league has nine solid football teams and a record four cheer squads. That’s more than 250 Costa Mesa kids and their families!

The Board, under the leadership of President Steve Mensinger has spent months fundraising and organizing this league into a program that is something bigger than just football.

The Buddy Program

Costa Mesa & Estancia high school football players and cheerleaders are uniting on the field to help train and mentor our young athletes. Additionally, high school athletes will be partnered with the oldest Pop Warner athletes as mentors throughout the season. The programs goals are to not only help build enthusiasm for students and families to participate in our local high school athletic programs, but to expose these high school young adults to leadership opportunities, the value of working together for a common goal (even if rivals), as well as community involvement and pride. Out on the field proudly wearing their school colors and showing off their skills, the program is a hit with all of the athletes already. New Costa Mesa friendships are developing in the process.

The Little Scholars Program

Costa Mesa Pop Warner leaders understand that athletics and academics are partners on the road to success. Pop Warner is the only national youth athletic program in America that requires its athletes to prove average or higher grades before participation. Children who participate in Costa Mesa Pop Warner football or cheer are also participating in a Scholastic Program. Costa Mesa Pop Warner (CMPW) is relentless in its emphasis of the importance of academic achievement. In addition to national recognition, the Mesa Eagles have taken scholastic recognition a step further. The CMPW Board of Directors also recognizes and awards Top Scholars from each team and division. CMPW wants it’s athletes competing on the field and in the classroom.

Improvements to Parsons Field

And then there’s the facility improvements to Parsons field—the new Costa Mesa Pop Warner home. The equipment bin is covered and painted, giving CMPW roots at Parson’s field. The new snack bar decorated like a tiki bar & grill, palms included, is dedicated to long time volunteer Ed Baume. It’s full of modern amenities including electricity. Families can enjoy low cost dinners during the season on site. Finally, the new yellow goal posts leave nothing to the imagination: CMPW officially has a home for our kids.

The league is growing and thriving, everyone is very excited about the impact it will have on our high school athletics during the next few years. For more information about Costa Mesa Pop Warner and how you can join the team, check out the website at www.costamesapopwarnerfootball.com
