Council seeks members for Personnel Board

The Laguna Beach City Council is accepting applications to serve on the city’s Personnel Board. The Personnel Board consists of three members who serve two-year terms that begin Oct. 1 in odd-numbered years.

The Personnel Board hears appeals relative to any disciplinary action, dismissal, demotion, reduction in pay or suspension.

Residents of Laguna Beach who are interested should obtain an application in the City Clerk’s office or at www.lagunabeachcity.net.

The application must be filed by 5 p.m. Sept. 8. All applicants will be interviewed by the council at their regular meeting, 6 p.m. Sept. 15 in the City Council Chambers, 505 Forest Ave.

Friendship Shelter plans Sept. 11 benefit

Friendship Shelter is holding its major fundraising event of the year, “The Art of the Getting Home,” on Sept. 11 at [seven-degrees].

Dog training seminar offered Sept. 15

The Laguna Beach Animal Shelter is offering “Ask The Trainer,” a free dog training/behavior consultation to eight dog owners from 6:45 to 8 p.m. Sept. 15 at the shelter.

Ann Garland of DogSpeak Dog Training will answer many questions posed by dog owners, but dogs should be left at home.

Trash service to be delayed after Labor Day

Waste Management of Orange County’s trash and recycling pick-up schedule will be delayed by one day in the days after Sept. 7, in observance of Labor Day.

Customers should place their bins out for pickup one day later than usual, beginning Sept. 8 through 12.

“Customers who usually receive service on Monday will instead receive it Tuesday, and so on throughout the remainder of the week, with Friday’s customers receiving service on Saturday,” said Senior District Manager David Ross.

Marine Mammal Center plans benefit Sept. 13

Jon Madison’s Square & Garden Café will be hosting a Martini Madness event to benefit the Pacific Marine Mammal Center from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Sept. 13 at the restaurant, 320 N. Coast Hwy.

Admission price for the evening is $20, and 100% of the proceeds will go toward the cost of food and medication for recovering marine mammals.
