Middle school seeks volunteers

With the state budget crisis costing TeWinkle Middle School money for its after-school programs, an array of volunteer opportunities are available to help local children.

Opportunities are available before, during and after school. Adults can help kids with homework or at the fitness center, assisting students with cardiovascular exercises and strength-training equipment.

Parents can help supervise the morning breakfast or, during lunch, supervise the tables, teen center or library.

The Fellowship of Christian Athletes could use support at its monthly “huddles.” After school, adults are again welcome to assist with kids’ homework, supervise the fitness center, help coach various sports or be a mentor for a student.

TeWinkle also needs volunteers for its campus beautification and teacher appreciation events.

Volunteers can sign up Tuesday morning at the Costa Mesa school’s introductory pancake breakfast from 7:30 to 9 a.m.

Because the volunteers would be working with children, fingerprinting and a background check will be conducted.

For more information or to volunteer, call Brent Bordelon at (714) 424-7965 or call bbordelon@nmusd.us.
