“Using New Social Media to Effectively to Communicate with your Congregation” is the subject of the Sept. 16 luncheon meeting of the Newport-Mesa-Irvine Interfaith Council, according to Greg Kelley, program chairman.

“The presentation should familiarize all with an understanding of the ABCs of using Facebook, MySpace, Twitter and other social media as an effective communication tool,” Kelley said.

The guest speaker is Eric Chevalier, new media consultant at S3RUM, experienced in the social media for getting the message out. Nonprofit organizations would probably find the subject helpful as well.

“This is our annual meeting with the focus on clergy attendance as a new school year begins,” said Council President the Rev. Julie Elkins of the First United Methodist Church of Costa Mesa. Clergy new to congregations in Costa Mesa, Irvine and Newport Beach are free, while others attending will pay $10 with a reservation or $12 without the reservation. The meeting is open to the public.

The day begins at 11:45 a.m. with a reception, followed by a noon luncheon. Chevalier will begin speaking at 12:30 p.m., with adjournment by 1:30 p.m.

The meeting will be at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church at 1441 W. Balboa Blvd., Newport Beach at Balboa and 15th Street on the Balboa Peninsula.

Reservations are a must and can be e-mailed to nmiinterfaith@aol.com or made by calling (949) 689-4443.

NEWPORT IRVINE GOLF CHALLENGE

The Orange County Golf Challenge, sponsored by the Newport-Irvine Rotary Club, will be Sept. 28 at the Aliso Viejo Country Club.

“We will be playing a scramble format with an 11 a.m. shotgun start,” said Tournament Chairman Earle Zucht.

Proceeds from the tournament will benefit Olive Crest Homes and Services for Abused Children, Boy Scouts of America Orange County Council, Community Senior Serv, YMCA of Orange County and the Rotary Foundation.

The fee for individual golfers is $225 and $900 for a foursome, according to Zucht.

For more information, call Zucht at (949) 887-4892 or Daiva Rugienius at (949) 735-2779 or visit www.ocgolfchallenge.com.
