Ross, Kessy capture fourth AVP title

MASON, Ohio — Former Newport Harbor High star April Ross and her teammate Jen Kessy won their fourth Assn. of Volleyball Professionals women’s title this season.

Ross and Kessy, the No. 2 seeded team, upset top-seeded Nicole Branagh and Elaine Youngs, 22-20, 21-18, at the AVP Crocs Tour Tournament of Champions Sunday.

Ross and Kessy, the 2009 FIVB world champions, defeated Branagh and Youngs for the fourth time this season in an AVP final. The two teams have played each other nine times in a final, with Branagh and Youngs winning five times.
