UCI’s Walker earns three accolades

UC Irvine junior forward Amani Walker has been named Big West Conference Player of the Week in men’s soccer.

He was also named to national teams of the week by College Soccer News and Soccer America.

Walker scored a pair of game-winning goals for the No. 8-ranked Anteaters.

He posted an overtime goal in a 3-2 road win over Santa Clara Sept. 1. And he converted a diving header in the 18th minute of a 1-0 win over Long Island Saturday at UCI.

Through Wednesday, Walker led the ’Eaters (3-0) with three goals and one assist.

PETERS TOP NAIA PASSER

Newport Harbor High product Kasey Peters, a senior quarterback at Rocky Mountain College in Montana, leads the NAIA in passing and total offense after two football games with the Battlin’ Bears.

Peters is averaging 495.5 yards of total offense per game and 467 passing yards per contest. He has completed 70 of 105 passes for 934 yards and eight touchdowns. He has yet to throw an interception.

The No. 2 player in total offense is averaging 408 yards and Peters is 30 yards per game ahead of the runner-up in passing yards per game.

Rocky Mountain defeated Dickinson State College, 28-7, on Aug. 29, then lost, 58-50, to Eastern Oregon on Saturday.
