Sharky Reza scored two touchdowns and kicked two field goals as the Huntington Beach Pop Warner Pee Wee Green Chargers beat Yorba Linda, 34-7, on Saturday at Edison High.

Tyler Clay had a 35-yard touchdown after recovering a fumble for the Green Chargers. Steve Hernandez added a 22-yard touchdown scamper, and Raymond Tafoya also had a 15-yard touchdown run.

?In the Mighty Mite Division, the Huntington Beach Green Chargers lost a close game to Santa Margarita, 21-14, at Santa Margarita.

Connor Sanford had a 60-yard interception return for a touchdown, five tackles and scored on a 10-yard run. Logan Sherhouse caught a big 25-yard pass, Tanner Nelson shined on defense, and Cameron Mase had a two-point conversion.

Wolfpack captures crown at NHB Cup

The Huntington Beach-based Wolfpack girls’ under-16 soccer team, coached by Ray Smyth, played with a lot of determination and won the NHB Cup championship at UC Irvine on Sept. 6.

The Wolfpack finished 3-0-1, allowing just two goals while the offense pounded in five goals. Dallas Nicholson, Nicola Duff, Amanda Tompkins, Katrina Moretta and Roxy Lopez helped contribute as the team made it to the championship game against the CVU Strikers. In the second half, Lefty Guerrero put in the winning goal, and keeper Natalie McNeely made amazing saves to preserve the shutout.

Other contributors included Milena Buonanoce, Victory Clardy, Sara Hodges, Andrea Kennedy, Samantha Mayer, Brynne McCord, Emily Lutzke, Alexa Ouaknine, Nicole Pappalardo and Gemma Stewart.

“The girls showed so much heart this whole weekend and have ultimately shown that they belong at the Silver Elite level of play,” Smyth said.
