Pavlik ninth at Tournament of Champions

Laguna Beach resident Whitney Pavlik and partner Nancy Mason tied for ninth at the Assn. of Volleyball Professionals Tour Tournament of Champions, which concluded Sunday in Mason, Ohio.

The duo split $3,750 at the tournament which featured the top 16 men’s and women’s teams on the beach.

Laguna Beach High alum Rachel Wacholder and partner Kerri Walsh finished a disappointing 13th, splitting $2,500. They were seeded sixth but went 0-2 in the tournament, losing a pair of tough three-set matches.

Main Beach holds tryouts

Main Beach Laguna Volleyball Club will be holding boys’ club volleyball tryouts Sept. 19 at Saddleback College. The schedule is 10 a.m. to noon for 13- to 16 year-olds, and noon to 2 p.m. for 17- and 18-year-olds.

Girls’ tryout times are to be announced.
