Laguna Hills Invitational

LAGUNA HILLS — Newport Harbor High’s Maggie Goodson finished second in the Division II freshman girls’ race Saturday.

She posted a time of 20 minutes, 12.75 seconds.

Junior Torri Sarris came in seventh among juniors in 19:36.06, while Patty Moddelmog was ninth in the senior race, finishing in 20:12.01.

Lauren Clemence was 12th among sophomores in 20:27.41, Kasey DeYoung 13th among seniors in 20:30.69. Senior Emily Wilson (20:39.07) and junior Jordan Murrel (20:37.84) were 18th in their respective races.

Senior Ava Nelson came in 21st in 20:55.35.

Laguna Hills Invitational

LAGUNA HILLS — Sage Hill School’s Dylan Thies came in second place in the Division III freshman boys’ race Saturday.

He finished in 17 minutes, 24 seconds.

Chris Andras was 30th in the same race in 19:22.

In the junior race, Sage Hill’s Slater Stanley was 59th in 18:51. David Penner came in 36th in the senior race in 19:18.

The Lightning’s Sophia Witte came in 19th in 23:04 in the girls’ freshman race.

Caroline Grant was 42nd in 23:04 among sophomores.

Sage Hill will return to action Tuesday at Salt Creek Beach State Park in Dana Point, competing in an Academy League meet.

GIRLS’ TENNIS

Lightning Invitational

NEWPORT BEACH — Sage Hill finished third in its own event because of sets won Saturday.

It took Santa Ynez six seasons of playing the Lightning Invitational to finally take the championship.

With three teams, Sage Hill, Tesoro, and Santa Ynez, tied with identical 2-1 records, the order of finish had to be determined by number of sets won in the two-day tournament played at The Tennis Club. Santa Ynez had 29 sets, narrowly defeating runner-up Tesoro who finished with 28 sets as Sage Hill came in third with 27 sets. Cerritos came in fourth.

Making the all-tournament team were Sage Hill’s Lauren Hsu, Ava Soleimany, Liana Korber, Devyn Billingsley, and Rian Billingsley.

The MVP Singles award went to Santa Ynez’ senior captain Alisa Silsbee while the MVP Doubles went to Tesoro’s McKenzie McCormick and Kelsey Linton.
