Expansions narrows roads
Some roadways serving John Wayne Airport’s terminals are being narrowed for at least two years to accommodate the construction of Terminal C, Parking Structure C, a central utility plant and other airport improvements, an airport spokesperson said Thursday.
The lane reductions between Terminal B and Campus Drive will last through 2011, when the $543-million airport improvement project is scheduled for completion, said spokeswoman Jenny Wedge.
As of Tuesday, the lower-level road serving the arrivals area was reduced from three lanes to two, she said.
In coming weeks, lanes along the upper level that feed passengers to the departures area will be narrowed from four to three lanes, Wedge said.
In addition, motorists driving southwest to Campus Drive from Terminals A and B will see the number of lanes reduced from two to one, west of the site for the future Terminal C.
The two lanes serving traffic heading in the opposite direction along that section of the road won’t be affected, Wedge said.
She urged passengers and motorists to allow extra time to travel to the airport and to drive cautiously and obey traffic signs between the terminal areas and Campus Drive.
