Costa Mesa police are investigating an alleged attack on a homeless man as a possible hate crime.

Police said Tuesday night a homeless man outside the Westside Bar and Grill approached a group of people and was shooed away. When he approached them again later, they chased him and beat him up, said Sgt. Bryan Glass. The homeless man was black, the three suspected attackers white. According to police, the three yelled racial slurs at the man as they chased him down to assault him.

Police arrested William Shoop, 24, Jodie Brummett, 21, and Charles Durliat, 37, all of Costa Mesa, on suspicion of various felonies including assault with a deadly weapon and conspiracy to commit a crime. Shoop and Brummett have pleaded not guilty to gang and assault charges. Durliat has not been arraigned.

Harbor Boulevard: A commercial burglary was reported in the 3000 block at 7:56 a.m. Wednesday.

Fairview Road: A petty theft was reported in the 2700 block at 8:01 a.m. Wednesday.

Scenic Avenue: A grand theft was reported in the 1500 block at 11:02 a.m. Wednesday.

Harbor Boulevard: A vehicle was reported stolen in the 2200 block at 12:53 p.m. Wednesday.

Placentia Avenue: Vandalism was reported in the 2500 block at 1:55 p.m. Wednesday.

Wilson Street: A suspicious person was reported in the 800 block at 5:54 p.m. Wednesday.

West Baker Street: A vehicle was reported burglarized in the 800 block at 6:27 a.m. Wednesday.

Enclave Circle: A residential burglary was reported in the 400 block at 9:12 a.m. Wednesday.

Newport Boulevard: A vehicle was reported stolen in the 2600 block at 10:52 a.m. Wednesday.

Wilson Street: A residential burglary was reported in the 100 block at 3:25 p.m. Wednesday.

Rhine Lane: A suspicious person was reported in the 600 block at 4:29 p.m. Wednesday.

Bristol Street: A residential burglary was reported in the 1300 block at 10:46 p.m. Wednesday.

Lugonia Street: A burglary was reported in the 300 block at 2:16 a.m. Thursday.

Miramar Drive: A vehicle was reported burglarized in the 1500 block at 6:38 a.m. Thursday.

Canal and Orange streets: A suspicious person was reported at 9:44 a.m. Thursday.

Santa Ana Avenue: A suspicious vehicle was reported in the 20400 block at 10:40 a.m. Thursday.

Broad Street: A vehicle theft was reported in the 3200 block at 3:18 p.m. Thursday.

Balboa Boulevard: A residential burglary was reported in the 900 block at 4:22 p.m. Thursday.

Westcliff Drive: A suspicious person was reported in the 1800 block at 2:15 p.m. Thursday.

Eastbluff Drive: A suspicious person was reported in the 2500 block at 3:21 p.m. Thursday.
