The Dave Kelsey-coached North Huntington Beach girls’ under-10 Black team continued last weekend with a doubleheader, facing some of Southern California’s elite teams for their age group. The weekend opened up with a game on the home field of CRSC So Cal Infinity 99 in Garden Grove and ended with a game Sunday on the home field of LAFC Chelsea in La Cañada.

The NHB girls took the fight to CRSC Saturday morning. However, NHB gave up a goal to CRSC in each half of the match.

With numerous opportunities off of shots from NHBs Kayla Herbert, Maricarmen Reyes, Madi Macias, Shaelyn Elliott and Michael Guptill, NHB still failed to break the plane of the goal and score. This allowed CRSC to come out with a victory of 2-0, setting the rematch for later this season between the two clubs.

Coming off a tough defeat to CRSC, NHB GU-10 Black was hungry for both a goal and victory going into the match against LAFC Chelsea on Sunday. LAFC struck quickly in the first half, scoring a goal in the third minute of play. NHB’s Madi Macias tied things up shortly thereafter with a header.

Later that same half, Macias threw in the ball from the touch line near the penalty area of LAFC. Carly Flores took the ball served by Madi and shot it hard at the goal which deflected off an LAFC defender.

Nearby, NHB’s Kayla Herbert saw the rebound and struck it hard which resulted in a goal giving NHB the 2-1. However, with just minutes left in the half, LAFC tied it up with their second goal of the half. The second half saw both teams with opportunities, none of which resulting in another goal. The game ended in a tie.
