Academics And Fun Mix Well At St. Joachim Parish School

St. Joachim Parish School celebrates the beginning of the new school year with its traditional “Back To School Social”

St. Joachim Parish School on 1964 Orange Ave, Costa Mesa, hosted its “Back to School Social” on Thursday, Sept. 24th from 5pm to 8pm. All St. Joachim school families & friends were invited to celebrate the exciting beginning of the new school year 2009/2010 in a casual setting. The TK Burger truck came to provide hamburgers, chips and drinks for all the families picnicking on the school lawn while they were catching up on seeing old friends, exchanging stories of summer adventures and were just enjoying the Saint Joachim school community. Free Ice-cream for all was sponsored by the St. Joachim PTA.

Every year students, their families and faculty are looking forward to this fun event. It is the first of several school celebrations throughout the year that makes the St. Joachim Sea King spirit come alive and this unique school community shine.

And there is a lot to be proud of this year. On their return to school after summer break, students were surprised to find SMART Boards, interactive whiteboards, in their classrooms that will make them experience a whole new level of learning and inspire them on their quest to academic excellence. Following this path, St. Joachim’s engaging and supportive PTA has invested in new math textbooks that will challenge students and help them reach a new academic level in their math skills.

But the school cares not only about the academics but also about the healthy well being of its students and, from this year on, has chosen a new lunch service, ‘Children’s choice’, to provide wholesome nutritious food for the lunch break. As Principal Sr. Kathleen Marie points out, “There is something for everyone- even sushi !”.

Another novelty this year will be the new school times for Kindergarten. Previously attending school just for half a day, Kindergartners will now learn and play at St. Joachim from 8:00 AM to 1:30 PM in the afternoon. An extended day program will be available until 6:00 pm for all children enrolled at St. Joachim for an extra fee.
