CORONA DEL MAR — Michael Liao scored three goals including the game-winner in sudden death to lift the Corona del Mar High boys’ water polo team to a 5-4 nonleague win over Edison Wednesday.

Evan Ramsey had two goals and one assist for CdM (7-2), which overcame a 2-0 deficit. Regulation ended tied, 3-3. Both teams scored in the first overtime period and after a scoreless second overtime period, the match went into sudden death.

Corona del Mar goalie Bruce Bearer had nine saves.

Laguna Beach 17, Estancia 9

COSTA MESA — Charlie Umansky scored four goals for the Eagles in their Orange Coast League opener Wednesday.

Miguel Arteaga, Preston Schow and Matt Thome had one goal each for Estancia (9-5, 0-1 in league), while goalie Connor Graham had 23 saves.

Newport Harbor 5, Westminster 0

WESTMINSTER — Senior Lauren Grupe scored two goals for the Sailors in their Sunset League opener Wednesday.

Junior Stephanie Storch, along with seniors Claire Ramser and Caroline Hardenbergh added one goal each for Newport Harbor (5-1, 1-0 in league), which plays host to Huntington Beach today at 3:15 p.m. at Harper Community Park. It’s a rematch of last year’s Tournament of Champions final.

Sage Hill def. Calvary Chapel of Murietta

MURRIETA — Lindsey Kish had seven kills, seven digs and two aces for the Lightning, who won, 25-17, 25-21, 25-15, in a nonleague match Wednesday.

Natasha Sakraney had six kills and two aces, Zoe Kreitenberg added five kills and Madison Gordon-Lavaee contributed four kills and four aces for Sage Hill (3-7).

The Lightning play host to Irvine Friday at 5:30 p.m. And will also play at home Monday against Calvary Chapel Santa Ana.

IRVINE — Senior Amy Babbush and sophomore Erin Hong both shot 13-over-par 49 for the Lightning for their first win in the Academy League match at Rancho San Joaquin Golf Course Wednesday.

Saddleback Valley Christian’s Nikki Gino shot 46 for medalist honors.

Sage Hill improved to 1-5, 1-2 in league.

COSTA MESA — Senior Lauren Draganza shot even-par 36 for the Sailors in a nonleague match on the Mesa Linda course at Costa Mesa Golf & Country Club Wednesday.

Newport Harbor is 9-0 on the season.

Morgan Moody shot a 38, followed by Charlotte Skjonsby (41), Lyndsey Hanna (44) and Ali Thomas (45).

The Sailors play Marina today at Meadowlark Golf Club in Huntington Beach at 2:30 p.m.

MISSION VIEJO — Tess Crane shot five-over-par 41 for the Sea Kings in their two nonleague wins Wednesday.

Grace Kim (43), Ashley Varner (44), Amanda Johnson (46) and Caitlin Shinohara (51) also scored for Corona del Mar(4-7).

The Sea Kings play host to San Juan Hills today at Newport Beach Country Club.

IRVINE — Samantha Stalder, the Sailors’ No. 1 singles player, won twice during the nonleague match Wednesday.

The No. 1 doubles team of Christina Young and Ricki Archie also won twice for Newport (5-3), which opens Sunset League play today at home against Edison.

HUNTINGTON BEACH — Junior Tori Sarris placed fifth in 18 minutes, 45 seconds, helping the Sailors to a third-place finish at Central Park Wednesday.

Maggie Goodson finished ninth in 19:07 and Newport Harbor’s top next three runners were Lauren Clemence (16th, 19:36), Ava Nelson (18th, 19:38) and Patty Moddelmog (22nd, 19:44).

Esperanza won the meet and Edison placed second.

Newport Harbor will compete at the Clovis Invitational on Oct. 10.

HUNTINGTON BEACH — Alex Jolly finished in seventh place in 16 minutes, 16 seconds, as the Sailors tied for third place at Central Park Wednesday.

Newport Harbor’s Austin Little placed 19th (16:49), followed by Jake Barber (23rd, 16:54), Aaron Fleming (27th, 16:59) and Jake Manning (29th, 17:02).
