Edison’s White helps Broncos to No. 5

Edison High product Hunter White has shined at linebacker, helping the Boise State football team make history.

The sophomore led the Broncos (4-0) with seven tackles as they topped Bowling Green, 49-14, on Saturday. The win moved Boise State up three spots to No. 5 in both the AP and USA Today national polls, which is the highest regular-season ranking in school history. The Broncos were also ranked No. 5 in the final AP poll of 2006, following their memorable 43-42 win over Oklahoma in the Fiesta Bowl.

HBHS field hockey tops Marina

Ashlyn Pooler, Claire Prestridge and Lindsey Walter all scored as the Huntington Beach High girls’ field hockey team won its league opener at Marina, 3-0, on Tuesday.

The first two goals were unassisted, with the final one coming with great teamwork as Corinne Clegg passed to Taryn Rescigno, who found Walter for the goal. Huntington Beach also beat Chaminade, 5-0, on Sept. 24. Rescigno scored twice and Prestridge, Jessica Van Arsdale and Jordan Mulholland also found the back of the net.

Huntington plays rival Newport Harbor today at Harper Preschool Center in Costa Mesa.
