Assistant Branch Director Sara Dean said organizers are taking a proactive approach to getting kids involved, connected and active.

“Our kids sit in front of the television and in front of the computer too much,” she said. “Being active keeps kids fit and lean, in touch with themselves, and gives them the ability to think on their feet.”

TLC branch gets some ‘TLC’

Staff, parents and community volunteers under the leadership of TLC mom Missy Durant recently spruced up the front porch and stairs of the Boys & Girls Club of Laguna Beach, which had undergone four years of wear and tear.

Branch Director Ashlyn Strahle approached Dubernay Ospina, a parent of two TLC club members and sales manager for Behr Paint, in hopes to get the materials needed to do the job at a reasonable cost.

He returned with gallons of wood tint and paint kits later that week, courtesy of Behr.

Assistant Director Monica Silver said the branch’s staff is grateful to Ospina and all of those who volunteered their time.

“The club’s deck and patio are at the entrance of the club and are the first thing you see upon arrival,” she said.

“We strive to have the best facility possible for our kids and had been working on a plan to refurbish these areas.”

Yoga for kids at Chabad

Mini Yogis of Los Angeles will offer yoga for kids ages 3 to 8 Thursdays at the Chabad Jewish Center, 30804 S. Coast Hwy.

The six-week “stretch and storytime” series will run from 4 to 5 p.m., and is open to all children in the community.

Founded by Shana Meyerson, Mini Yogis is a yoga program developed exclusively for children.

“Kids aren’t little adults, and they shouldn’t be treated as if they are,” Meyerson said.

“Yoga is a gift; it is uplifting, noncompetitive, mind-expanding and a fun way for kids to build strength, spirit and self-esteem.

“Being a kid can be tough sometimes, but being a mini yogi makes it a whole lot easier.”

Cost for the six-week session is $60, prepaid. Drop-ins are $15 per class.
