Free flu shots available for seniors

Laguna Beach Seniors, Mission Hospital Laguna Beach and the Orange County are offering free flu shots at the Susi Q Senior Center from 8 a.m. to noon Thursday. No appointment is necessary; first come, first served.

This will not include the newly approved swine flu vaccine.

Ballroom dancing is back at center

Ballroom dancing will again be offered at the Susi Q. Classes will be 2 to 3 p.m. Mondays and the cost will be $5 per session. Couples or singles are welcome, and a partner is not required.

Participants will have the opportunity to vote on what dances they would like to learn. Candi Davis will lead students in every type of dance from slow to quick, ballroom to Latin.

Showcase Singers to perform Monday

The Showcase Singers will perform for free at the Susi Q Senior Center from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Monday.

The talented group of singers have delighted audiences for almost 40 years, and specialize in bringing their audiences the music of Broadway shows such as “Camelot,” “My Fair Lady,” and “Phantom of the Opera.”

Free legal seminar rescheduled

Elder Law and Estate Planning attorney R. Lee Andersen is offering a free lecture on living trusts from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Oct. 29 at the Susi Q Center. The class was previously advertised on another day but has been rescheduled. The basics of a living (revocable) trust as a tool for estate planning will be discussed.

Digital photo computer lessons

The Susi Q is offering drop-in computer classes on how to organize digital photos from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday. The cost is $10 per session. Class size is limited to 10 persons so the instructor can spend one on one time with each participant.

Participants should bring their cameras, memory chips, and cable connectors and learn how to download photos, create different folders to organize photos, sort the downloaded images into the folders, name the photos and folders and learn to work with Picasa (a free download from Google). Lifelong Learning classes offered

Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) has come to Laguna Beach with its first semester of classes at the Susi Q Community Center.

This new program is an affiliate of OLLI at UC Irvine which is one of 117 university based organizations nationwide endowed by the Osher philanthropy and focused on academically based lifelong learning. This new affiliate group offers the choice of an Associate level of membership with the convenience of local classes.

An annual membership fee of $20 entitles an associate member to enroll in any fall or spring semester class for $10 per class.

Topics include English literature, philosophy, personal relations, energy and environment, classical music, travel and history.

Registration is ongoing. Schedules of classes and registration forms are available at the Susi Q Center, 380 Third St.
