On Theater: Arts can intermingle

Generally speaking, one art form rarely intersects with another, and on the occasion they do, the last pairing one might expect would be dance and photography. Yet that’s what Gallimaufry Performing Arts has in store Saturday when not only the two art forms but two venues will be in the spotlight.

“Two Journeys — One Mission” will be offered, beginning at 6 p.m. in San Juan Capistrano and ending at 10:30 p.m. in Laguna Beach.

Dancers from the Gallimaufry & Greene Dance Company will combine their talents with those of a pair of local Laguna artists.

“The performances are depictions of the journey through photography on steel and kiln formed glass, enhanced by dance and music performance while enjoying food and wine,” explains Gallimaufry artistic director Steve Josephson.

The event begins at the Soldiers Barracks Gallery at the Mission San Juan Capistrano, 26801 Ortega Hwy., with Gallimaufry dancers Shanti Harter and Christine Reese performing from 6 to 8 p.m.

Then the scene shifts to the Studio Arts Gallery in Laguna from 8 to 10:30 p.m. with artists Suzi Chauvel and Sian Poeschi displaying their talents.

The dancers will remain at the Soldiers Barracks Gallery for their two-woman show through Jan. 5

Gallimaufry Performing Arts is Laguna’s all-encompassing arts organization, celebrating theater, music and dance. Its colorful name comes from a 15th century French word meaning a “hodgepodge” of artistic disciplines.

“We strive to create unique experiences for both the audience and participants by presenting entertaining programs of superior quality and creativity,” Josephson explains.
