LAS CRUCES, N.M. — UC Irvine holds a two-shot lead after Monday’s first round at the New Mexico State Golf Course.

Sophomore Joy Trotter shares the individual lead after firing a three-under-par 69 to pace the Anteaters to a team score of 294.

Junior Hillary Packard (73) is tied for seventh, while sophomore Lalita Patipaksiri and senior Henna Cho are tied for 26th with a score of 76. Senior Mariko Makabe (77) is tied for 39th.

UCI, the defending tournament champion, leads Idaho (296), Fresno State (298) and San Diego State (300), among others. The tournament continues with 18 holes today and 18 holes Wednesday.

UC Irvine Invitational

IRVINE — UC Irvine earned a pair of victories Sunday to close out the four-game tournament on a three-game winning streak.

The No. 9-ranked Anteaters defeated Navy, 10-7, and topped UC San Diego, 8-7 at Corona del Mar High.

Senior Tom Kruip had five goals against Navy, including back-to-back tallies to break a 5-5 tie in the third quarter.

UCI senior Greg Enloe and junior Brandon Johnson added two goals apiece against Navy.

Junior Matt Johnson (four saves) and senior Erik Evered (five) both spent time in goal for the winners.

Senior James Frank and Kruip had two goals each to key the victory over UCSD.

Matt Johnson had seven saves against the Tritons.

UCI (9-5) plays host to Cal State Long Beach to open Mountain Pacific Sports Federation play Thursday at 7 p.m.

STOCKTON — Senior Kate Berrini knocked in a corner kick by freshman Mar Rodgriguez in the 28th minute for the difference in the Big West Conference road match Sunday.

Junior Danielle de Seriere had two saves to earn her seventh shutout of the season for UCI, which improved to 9-5-1, 2-2 in conference.
