The Eagles Black team remained undefeated beating a squad from the same program in the conference playoffs Sunday. Jacob Marines and David Atencio scored for the Eagles Black, which was helped by its offensive line: Nick Fiola, Nick Torres, Christian Ferraro, Jonathan Muise, Zack Swies and Mason Lindh. Deshandre Kerkhoff, Charlie Godshall, Kainoa Korionoff, Cody Merrifield and Elijah Chavis led the Black defense. Christian Veit, Stephen Muise, Narciso Montes, Teddy Cameron, Tyler Patridge and Michael Hitchman played tough on defense for the Eagles Silver team.

Boys Under 14

Newport Yetis 3, Newport’s Ischinger 2: Callum Heasley and Yelko Camena scored for the Yetis. Blake Jessen, Marcel DeBarros, Wyatt Devine and Dominic Kosecki helped on defense. Cesar Guzman, Broson Woodall and Briggs Yahn kept up the momentum, while Teddy Stuka guarded the last line of defense.

Boys Under 12

The Red Team 3, Mario Bros 1: Sargis Srapyan scored twice and Cooper Peters added a goal and two assists. Corbin Joyce was steady in goal, his long punts created many attacking opportunities for speedy forwards Alex Michaelson and Griffin Burke. Spencer Swanson and Sean Arnold played well and were backed by steady play of Liam Tough. Brian Shaw disrupted many attacks, while Michael Nieto and Maxwell Spruill also contributed.

Boys Under 10

Newport FC vs. Ghostbusters: Newport FC Captains Bobby Schulze and Julian Hernandez helped lead the team in a come-from-behind victory. Jack Pitchess notched two goals and Garrett Gendron positioned himself perfectly for the game-winner. Thomas Vredenburgh, Hunter Bostwick and Hernandez played well. Lucas Mowery, Kyle Burger and Schulze were strong on defense. John Bush and Justan Gizer split keeper duties.

Orange Crush: Quinn Richards scored two goals. Griffin Brockhoff also scored. Marcus Croxson scored on an assist from Gage Greenberg. Jonny Rimlinger also played well, as did Jack White and Connor Spence. Scott Ryder scored two goals. Garrett Gritzmacher and Ryan Pham were great in goal.

Boys Under 8

Bulldogs vs. Scorpions: Jack Starnes had two goals. Gilbert Prado added an assist to Dylan Hillson, who scored twice.

Boys Under 7

Red Dragons vs. Blue Cobras: Evan Langston scored on an assist from Brandon Kincaid. The Red Dragons midfielders Justin McCoy and Kincaid controlled the action. McCoy scored a goal, as did Aedan Skellern.

Fighter Jets vs. Blue Thunder: Aidan Gassel and Finn McClintock played great, as did Marcus Miller and Kaiyo Freyder. Richie Rimlinger was tough on defense, as were Jake Nellesen and Jerome Snyder.

Boys Under 8

GI Joes vs. The Green Bullets: Jack Flores of the Joes never let up. Charlie Durham and Jack Bibb were key contributors. Dylan Miller, Michael Gallegos and Will Schneider held tough at midfield. Brett Johnson and Blake Jackson showed outstanding teamwork.

Boys Under 5

Blue Flames vs. Green Gorillas: Reade Decker and Morgan Pinckney had assists. Mitchell Schott scored on an assist from Morgan Pinckney. Reade Decker made solid pass to Jake Read for a goal. Quinn Hatzis was aggressive, while Kenny Wanlass and Collin Heinrich played well on defense. Will Jacobsen also played well.

Slammers stay on top

The Slammers Maroon girls’ U-11 soccer team increased its lead on top of the standings with wins over San Clemente United Soccer Club, Newport Mesa Soccer Club and XTreme Soccer Club. The Slammers improved to 7-0 after the first round of play in the Coast Soccer League. Against San Clemente, Grace Jennings opened the scoring off a cross from Siena Ward. Faith Harper, who was celebrating her 11th birthday, had two goals, while Katarina Freiberger added one goal. Coach Kirk McIntosh credited Bella Goldstein with Player of the Game honors for her controlling the defensive end. Harper notched the goal in the Slammers’ 1-0 win over Newport Mesa game, finishing off a perfect cross from Kiana Ghamari. Leah Givant and Katie Dosch led the offense. Ward had a hat trick against the Xtreme from Huntington Beach. Emma Scott also scored and Freiberger assisted. Shelby Guerena, Jasi Dunk, Grace Vandervort, Jackie Singer, Paige Fults and Goldstein played strong defense.

Newport Mesa Jr. All-American Football

The Newport Mesa Seahawks defeated the Cerritos Steelers, 27-14, in Jr. All-American Football Midget Division action. The offense, led by Chase Forrest, Ricky Zak and Ryan Taormina, was very productive. The offensive line, led by Colin Duffy, Grant Moore, Timmy Strader, Blake Bauer and Ian Redman, had very good pass blocking that allowed Forrest time to throw the ball. Wide receivers Spencer Lujan, Luke Napolitano, Adam Davis, Cole Chapin and Cory Stowell made great catches. Davis scored on a 10-yard reception, while Taormina hit paydirt on a run. Forrest provided the longest TD, a 30-yard run.

Linebackers Grant Moore and Jordan Binder led the defense, while Nick Landstrom, Brad Hostetler, Eddie Nolan and Gannon Bond also helped stop the run. Outside linebackers Cole Martin, Ryan Taormina and Charlie Griffin also played well. Cornerbacks Matthew Deverian, Bo St. Geme and Alex Moore were also contributors.

Newport-Mesa Clinic Division

The Seahawks improved to 4-1, 3-0. Matthew McDonald took Will Favreau’s first pass of the game for a 63-yard touchdown.

McDonald, Favreau and CJ Rios all rushed for touchdowns. Also contributing to the offense were Sachin Gokhale, Cole H. Wright, Richard Simons, David Zachry, Johnny Fagan, Ryan Simons and Thomas Yanis. The Seahawks are averaging 23 points a game this season, scoring 113 points in five games. Defensively the Seahawks stuffed the Garden Grove Falcons. Ryan Sarvak, Connor Narayan, Micaiah Kelley, Logan Rockwell, Turner Maza, Paul Steiner, Michael Ruiz, Bradford Binder, Leyton Bond and Cameron Shank played well on defense. Clyde Moore, Kyle Duffy and Bryce Debernarde had a sack each. Christopher Bailey had a tackle for a safety, as the Seahawks posted their second straight shutout.

Seahawks 46, Long Beach Jack Rabbits 0: Ben Humphreys helped the Pee-Wee team remain undefeated. He had a hand in four of the Seahawks touchdowns, beginning with a 74-yard kickoff return for a touchdown to start the game. He threw two touchdown passes and rushed for a 22-yard touchdown. Clay Dandeneau scored on a 12-yard reception and Harrison Carter hauled in a 45-yard pass for a TD. Fullback Nino Chavez also scored and provided great blocking. Josh Debenarde scored as well. The offensive line, including Trevor Branca, Liam Ogburn, Vik Ghadi, Ross Cameron, Michael Carmack, Brian Leguay, Chad Sheldon, Brett Schisler, Parker Chase and Brett Schisler, also contributed.
