Kuet makes 14U national team

Huntington Beach resident Jesse Kuet has been named to the roster of the 14-and-under U.S. national baseball team.

Kuet is one of 18 members of the team, which left Thursday to compete in the Pan Am Championships in Ecuador.

Garcia takes second

Carmille Garcia of Fountain Valley High finished second in the girls’ Division I race at the 28th annual Central Park Invitational, held Saturday at Central Park.

Garcia finished the three-mile course in 18 minutes, 34 seconds, which was second only to Teeny Adams of Esperanza (18:21). Fountain Valley was also second in the team standings as the Barons’ Catherine Martinez placed ninth (18:58).

Edison volleyball earns key league win

Cassie Strickland had 19 kills and 14 digs as the Edison High girls’ volleyball team (2-1 in league) edged Esperanza, 25-22, 14-25, 20-25, 25-15, 15-13, in a Sunset League match Tuesday.

Huntington Beach, meanwhile, topped Northwood in four games in a Sea View League match, 25-14, 23-25, 25-11, 25-13.

Andrea Streips and Katherine Wichner each had 11 kills for the Oilers, ranked No. 6 in the CIF Southern Section Division I-A coaches’ poll.
