Blue Vikings fall on late touchdown
On Saturday at the football fields at Marina High, the Huntington Beach Jr. Pee Wee Blue Vikings went up against the Norwalk Lancers in a very close Pop Warner Football matchup. It took a fourth-quarter touchdown by Norwalk to pull out a 12-8 victory.
The Blue Vikings held an 8-6 lead at the half and still maintained that advantage through three quarters. But late in the fourth quarter, Norwalk’s Stephen Gonzalez ran for the go-ahead touchdown to lift the Lancers to the win.
During the course of the game, the teams were pretty evenly matched. Both strategized a passing game but as the Lancers were quick to find out the Blue Vikings weren’t having it, they put a stop to their aerial attack and stuck with their running game.
“We played with heart today and worked hard in practice, and it just paid off,†Norwalk Coach Robert Correa said.
Huntington Beach Coach Ken Schiffner said he felt the same way about his team.
“We played hard today and our team has a lot of determination,†Schiffner said. “Unfortunately, we came up short.â€
