Temple Hills group sets meeting with mayor

The Temple Hills Community Assn. will hold its annual meeting and party, chaired by Carol Olson, at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, with Mayor Kelly Boyd as guest speaker.

To participate in the wine tasting, bring a wine from South or Central America, or Spain.

‘Garbage’ movie shown

Transition Laguna Beach will hold a free showing of the movie “Garbage: The Revolution Starts At Home,” at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the Laguna Beach Board of Realtors, 939 Glenneyre St.

Transition Laguna Beach is part of an international movement, which is helping communities thrive with local food, water and energy.

Assistance League orientation planned

The Assistance League Laguna Beach is having an orientation coffee and tour of the Chapter House, which includes the Early Intervention Room and the Turnabout Thrift Shop from 10 a.m. to noon Oct. 26.

The Chapter House is at 547 Catalina St. Interested community members are invited to share a cup of coffee and learn about the league’s activities.

Cross cultural group explores housing

The South County Cross-Cultural Council is launching a task force to explore the possibility of shared housing in Laguna Beach and is looking for residents who may be interested in this issue and would like to get involved.

Community/Senior Center honored

The Laguna Beach Community/Senior Center has been selected California Construction Magazine’s Best of 2009 Projects Cultural Winner for Southern California, City Manager Ken Frank announced in the City Manager’s Friday Update to city staff Oct. 9.

The contractor for the project, Swinerton Builders, submitted the application on behalf of the city, Frank said.

Church starts food drive for Resource Center

During October, Laguna Presbyterian Church is collecting non-perishable food items to contribute to the Laguna Resource Center, which distributes food to local needy families.

Items should be brought to the church office during the week or to the grassy area on Second Street between Mermaid Street and Forest Avenue before or after the Sunday services at 8:30 or 10 a.m.
