Floating despair for Halloween

Have you ever been to a Halloween costume party where nobody dresses up?

Well, this ain’t one of them.

Organizers of Un4seen Productions’ annual Halloween Yacht Party in Newport Harbor said one of the best, most surprising things they saw at last year’s party was just how many people got into the Halloween theme.

“I can think of maybe 10 people I saw not wearing a costume. Out of maybe 400,” said Ryan Doll of Un4seen Productions. “I was blown away.”

Doll said it’s just another element that makes the party — aboard the 140-foot Majestic yacht — the place to be Halloween night.

“Basically, we take the boat and transform it into a nightclub,” Doll said. “Last year, it was all black and dark glow lights and house music.”

The massive yacht boasts three levels, outdoor decks, a lounge and two full bars.

Partygoers will choose between the lower level where deejays will be spinning house music or the second level, where a deejay will blast hip-hop, dance and ‘80s hits.

Then there’s the “ghoulish” outdoor deck on the third floor where music bumping from below gives partygoers a chance to dance under the moonlight, Doll said.

The event flier even boasts that a dozen bathrooms are aboard the Majestic, plus a full appetizer buffet. There will also be a costume contest.

The cruise lasts four hours and tours Newport Harbor.

You have to be older than 21 to go, and the crowd is mostly in their late 20s or early 30s, Doll said.

Tickets can be purchased online or at Hi-Times Wine Cellars, 250 Ogle St. in Costa Mesa.

Boarding begins at 8:30 p.m. with the vessel launching at 9.
