New dock approval expected Tuesday

The Newport Beach City Council is expected to approve Tuesday a construction bid to repair the Rhine Wharf boardwalk and build a public dock there.

The total cost of the project is estimated to be $500,000.

City officials hope the new public dock will help alleviate congestion on the Rhine Channel, where it dead ends in Cannery Village around two popular restaurants, the Cannery and Bluewater Grill.

The Newport Beach Harbor Commission approved the project earlier this year.

“Kudos to the commission for providing convenience in a congested part of the harbor,” said Newport Beach Councilwoman Leslie Daigle.
