Irvine, Calif. (Sept. 16, 2009)

– University of California, Irvine Extension, along with the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI), join together to present “Quantum Physics of Life” featuring UCI physics professor Thorsten Ritz, Professor, Ph.D. From green leaves collecting light to migratory birds in their flight path, biological systems may exploit quantum phenomena. Is quantum physics more relevant to everyday life than we thought, and how can we learn to use such phenomena as a benefit? The luncheon is open to the public and will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 28, at 11:15 a.m. on the UCI campus at the UClub McCulloch Library.

OLLI at UCI is a dynamic group of seasoned adults—both retired and semi-retired—who enjoy literature, history, science, the arts and travel. OLLI’s mission is to enhance the quality of life for mature adults by promoting intellectual growth and unique educational experiences in an environment of social interaction.
