In the face of an 18-month suspension, a Costa Mesa lawyer resigned last week when two convictions for having sex with a minor were discovered, according to a news release from the State Bar of California.

James Parsa, 44, was a loan modification attorney who had been advertising heavily to help people facing home foreclosures, according to the news release. Parsa was going to be suspended for not reporting a pair of 2001 convictions for having sex with a person under 18 years old, but he resigned instead.

In a separate incident, Ronald Rodis, who worked for Newport Beach-based Rodis Law Group and America’s Law Group, resigned Oct. 13 as state officials investigated his loan modification practice. Rodis was one of 16 attorneys the state is investigating, officials said.
