Barbara P. White

Born February 27, 1916 in Indian

Head, Saskatchewan, Canada, passed

away on October 12, 2009, she was 93.

Barbara attended Burbank High School in Burbank,

CA and the University of Redlands in Redlands, CA. At

Redlands she earned a BA with a double major in Speech

and English. She was active in her sorority, Delta Kappa

Psi (Woman of the year 1974), Spurs, drama, University

Club, forensics and was honored as a recipient of the 75th

Anniversary Award (1983) for her service to the University,

and was elected the 1st woman President of the University

of Redlands Alumni Association (1971-1972).

While residing in Burbank with her husband, Nibs and

their two girls. Barbara was involved with Girl Scouts,

Community Concert Assoc., American Field Service, the

Methodist Church, PEO, Children’s Hospital Guild, and

was honored as a lifetime member of the PTA.

They moved permanently to the family home on Balboa

Island where they resided for 50 plus years. There she

involved herself with many local volunteer opportunities

and was an active member of the Newport Center United

Methodist Church and it’s chancel choir.

Barbara was fun-loving, kind and non-judgmental.

She has a host of friends of all ages and is survived by her

daughter, Kathy, 5 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren

all of whom feel lucky to have known her.

A celebration of Barb’s life will be held on Saturday

November 21st at 1:30 PM at the Newport Center United

Methodist Church, 1601 Marguerite Ave., Corona del Mar,

CA 92625.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to a

memorial fund in Barbara’s name at Newport Center

United Methodist Church.
