A pickup truck struck a 12-year-old boy who ran across MacArthur Boulevard in traffic Friday morning, Newport Beach police said.

The boy, a seventh-grader at Corona Del Mar Middle School, was on his way to school about 7 a.m. when he ran westbound from Bonita Canyon Road across MacArthur Boulevard, said Newport Beach police Sgt. Evan Sailor.

A Dodge pickup southbound on MacArthur struck the boy as he was crossing the street, Sailor said.

The truck had a green light at the time of the accident, and the driver does not appear to be at fault, Sailor said.

The boy was taken to Mission Hospital’s trauma center in Mission Viejo, where he is listed in serious condition, Sailor said.

The boy was conscious and alert after the accident and is expected to survive, Sailor said.
