SAN JOSE — Newport Harbor High will face Corona del Mar in the semifinals today at Bellarmine Prep after both teams won twice at Lynbrook High Friday.

The Sailors (20-3) opened the 16-team tournament with a 21-2 victory over Rio Americano of Sacramento. Chris Craib and Harry Tingler scored three goals each, while Farrel South, Jordan McLaren, Jack Yeager, Zach Lucas and Blake Kelly added two each. Lucas led Newport Harbor with five steals, while goalie Chris Whitelegge had five saves and Ikaika Sarme had four saves.

Yeager then scored four goals in a 10-4 win against Harvard-Westlake of North Hollywood. South had three goals, two assists and two steals. Whitelegge recorded eight saves.

Max Bergeson had four goals and two assists and four steals to lead the Sea Kings (19-4) to a 12-7 first-round win over Jesuit of Sacramento. Emery Molnar scored three goals and Evan Ramsey had two goals for CdM. Isle Anderson recorded seven saves and Bruce Bearer had three saves.

The Sea Kings then beat Sacred Heart Prep of San Francisco, 9-4. Bergeson and Blake Terry both had three goals and one steal. Bearer had 15 saves.

CdM and Newport clash at 1:40 p.m.

SANTA BARBARA — Newport Harbor High sophomore Cinnamon Sary recorded a career-high 76 assists in a five-game win over Torrey Pines that put the Sailors into today’s semifinals.

Senior Kirby Burnham had 23 kills and senior Katey Thompson added 21 kills in the Tars’ 19-25, 25-19, 25-22, 26-8, 15-11 quarterfinal win. Senior Kelly Heenan had 29 digs and junior Maddy Brown added 16 kills for Newport (22-4), which will play against Dos Pueblos of Goleta at 10:45 a.m. in the Chargers’ gym.

Sary amassed 50 assists in the Sailors’ 25-15, 25-22, 18-25, 25-8 first-round win over Bakersfield. Thompson had 22 kills, Burnham had 12 kills and Heenan had 16 digs.

Tournament of Champions

SANTA BARBARA — Corona del Mar High senior setter Madie Smith amassed a career-high 71 assists in a five-game win over Santa Barbara, as the Sea Kings split Friday.

Morgan Boukather led CdM (18-4) with 21 kills in the Sea Kings’ 23-25, 25-27, 25-23, 25-23, 15-9 first-round win. Amanda Nickel had 16 kills, Katelyn Baker had 24 digs and Claire Ham had three blocks. Boukather and Brombal had six kills each against unbeaten Archbishop Mitty, who won 25-20, 25-13, 25-13. Baker had 10 digs and Smith had 20 assists.

IRVINE — Senior Lindsey Kish had six kills and five digs to help lead the Lightning to a 25-10, 25-15, 25-20 Academy League win Friday at Irvine Valley College.

Sophomore Natasha Sakraney had six kills and four aces, while sophomore Tess Wohrle added four kills and four digs to Sage (11-9, 7-1 in league).
