Supt. Alan G. Rasmussen of the Ocean View School District is expected to make a report at Tuesday’s school board meeting about the district’s review of Maya Angelou’s controversial book “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings.”

The district pulled the book off its shelves and sent it to its instructional review committee after a community member complained about the book’s subject matter, which includes rape, teen pregnancy and child molestation. Westminster resident and former Westminster School District Trustee Judy Ahrens and Ocean View School District Trustee John Briscoe also approached the City Council this month to ask for the book’s removal from middle school shelves.

The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the district headquarters, 17200 Pinehurst Lane, Building A, Huntington Beach.
