Pet Of The Week
Catfish and Stymie
While most of the Community Animal Network’s volunteer base is female, they do on occasion have a cat-loving man who finds it rewarding to help save lives.
Eric Tucker found great joy in rescuing Catfish and Stymie from a box in an alley. He bottle-fed the pair and named them after the Little Rascals. Community Animal Network was called to help them find homes.
The network does its best to encourage adopting kittens in pairs. Stymie has been adopted and returned after just one night, with complaints about her activity level.
People often do as their families did, and if their family had only one cat, it is often what they seek out. After the fact, people realize the damage a single kitten can do inside a home when left alone without a playmate.
Another reason for adopting kittens in pairs is that happy indoor cats live longer.
Typical kittens are active and can become easily bored indoors without an equal-energy playmate. Coyotes, owls and hawks prey on small animals, or they can become lost.
Meet cats and kittens for adoption from noon to 4 p.m. weekends at Fashion Island, sponsored by Russo’s Pet Experience.
