SANTA ANA — Max Bergeson scored five goals to lead the Sea Kings to one of their biggest wins of the season, in nonleague action Tuesday.

Chase Watson added two goals for CdM (21-5), ranked No. 3 in the CIF Southern Section Division I coaches’ poll. Michael Liao scored for the Sea Kings with 3:45 left to tie the game, 9-9. Justin Papa scored on a power play with 1:18 remaining and CdM held off the Monarchs, ranked No. 2 in Division II.

Academy League finals

ORANGE — Freshman Dylan Thies finished fourth in 16 minutes, 52 seconds, helping Sage Hill School to a runner-up finish at Irvine Regional Park Tuesday.

The Lightning scored 55 points, behind champion St. Margaret’s.

Sage Hill’s four other runners were David Penner (10th, 17:30), Alemar Brito (12th, 17:44), Slater Stanley (13th, 17:48) and Jack Percival (16th, 18:05). The Lightning are ranked No. 7 in the CIF Southern Section Division V poll.

ORANGE — Freshman Sophia Witte placed third in 20 minutes, 14 seconds as Sage Hill finished second at Irvine Regional Park Tuesday.

Caroline Grant was the second top-10 finisher for the Lightning, taking seventh in 21:17. Jackie Dion (12th, 22:38), Campbell Moore (13th, 22:39) and Rannah Dabiri (18th, 22:54) scored for Sage Hill, ranked No. 7 in the CIF Southern Section Division V poll.

Fifth-ranked St. Margaret’s won the title with 34 points, followed by Sage Hill (53).

GIRLS’ TENNIS

Pacific Coast League finals

CORONA DEL MAR — The Corona del Mar High doubles team of Melissa Matsuoka and Hailey Hogan dropped just one game in two rounds and advanced to today’s semifinals.

Matsuoka and Hogan are the top-seeded team. Katelyn Nguyen and Kalika Slevcove also advanced to the semifinals after beating teammates Kelli Feeley and Azadeh Nazemi, 6-0, 2-6, 10-7.

NEWPORT BEACH — Sage Hill School will have two doubles teams in today’s semifinals at the Tennis Club.

Dominique More and Liana Korber will play against Haley Miller and Tiffany Chen of St. Margaret’s.

The Lightning’s sisters doubles team of Rian and Devon Billingsley will take on the Tartans’ sisters Melanie and Hannah Hess.

CORONA DEL MAR — Claire Ham and Morgan Boukather had 10 kills each to lead the Sea Kings to a 25-12, 25-13, 25-15 Pacific Coast League win Tuesday.

Boukather also had five aces, while Sydney Brombal had nine digs and Madie Smith had 29 assists for CdM (21-4, 9-0 in league), which will try to clinch the league title outright Thursday at 5:30 p.m., when it plays host to Beckman.

NEWPORT BEACH — Katey Thompson had 19 kills to lead the Sailors to a 25-15, 21-25, 25-15, 25-15 Sunset League win Tuesday.

Cinnamon Sary had 44 assists and Kelly Heenan had 19 digs for Newport (23-6, 8-1 in league), which plays at Edison Thursday.
