Woman suing city over park injury
A Huntington Beach woman is suing the city after tripping over an exposed pipe in Huntington Central Park.
Elizabeth Medina, 41 , is requesting an unknown amount in damages for medical expenses, loss of earning and the cost of the suit, according to a lawsuit filed Oct. 31, 2008.
Medina originally requested $450,000 in a claim to the city July 1, 2008. The claim was denied by the city Sept. 18, 2008.
Medina was sitting on a picnic table in the park March 22, 2008 when she got up and tripped on an exposed pipe, falling to the ground, according to the lawsuit.
Medina couldn’t see the pipe and tore her anterior ligament and suffered a bony contusion on her left leg, according to the lawsuit.
The city has denied any responsibility for Medina’s injuries, according to court documents.
The suit is scheduled for a mandatory settlement conference in May and a jury trial in June.
