Several upcoming performances at the Orange County Performing Arts Center of the provocative, Tony Award-winning musical “Spring Awakening” will be linked with opportunities to talk about social and sexual issues mentioned in the musical.

The talk-backs are free for ticketed patrons.

“Spring Awakening” is based on an 1891 German play, and tells the story of teenage self-discovery and budding sexuality.

The musical contains partial nudity, strong language and sexual situations.

The musical’s score is by Duncan Sheik, with book and lyrics by Steven Sater, direction by Michael Mayer and choreography by Bill T. Jones.

Following the 7:30 p.m. Tuesday and 2 p.m. Nov. 21 performances, the center will host panel discussions featuring center President Terry Dwyer, a mother and daughter who have seen “Spring Awakening,” and family counseling and social service experts.

Many of the actors will be on hand after the 7:30 p.m. Nov. 18 and 24 performances to talk with audience members about their careers and experiences, as well as the 2006 musical that’s rocked Broadway’s very foundations.

“The center is proud to offer Spring Awakening. It is a thrilling, theatrical and passionate work, and we recognize that it does explore some powerful and provocative themes. Its message of adolescent awakening, which is in many ways even more relevant today, is sure to both entertain and inspire spirited debate,” Dwyer said in a release.

The center has put several additional resources for families on ocpac.org, including video previews and a guide for parents.

The production will be onstage at Segerstrom Hall, 600 Town Center Drive, Costa Mesa from Tuesday to Nov. 29. For more information, call (714) 556-2787, or visit ocpac.org.

Student rush tickets will be available for $20.
