SAN LUIS OBISPO — Senior Carlos Aguilar scored his second goal by converting a penalty kick in the 103rd minute to end the Big West Conference Tournament semifinal early in the second overtime Wednesday at Cal Poly.

The Anteaters (14-6), the No. 3 seed in the four-team tournament, meet conference regular-season champion UC Santa Barbara in the title match, Saturday at 7 p.m. at UCSB’s Harder Stadium.

UCI opened a 1-0 lead in the second minute, when Aguilar headed in an assist from senior Irving Garcia.

Cal Poly (8-10-2), the No. 2 seed, pulled even on a free kick in the 30th minute.

Sophomore goalie Andrew Fontein had two saves for the ’Eaters, who forced Cal Poly keeper Patrick McLain to make eight saves.

Last season, UCI defeated UCSB, 4-2, in the inaugural conference tournament title match, after taking a 4-0 lead into halftime.

This season, the Gauchos have a pair of 1-0 wins over UCI, Sept. 27 in Santa Barbara and Oct. 31 in Irvine.

Wednesday’s win greatly increases the likelihood that UCI will play in the NCAA Tournament, in which it advanced to the round of 16 last season.
