NEWPORT BEACH — Seniors Kirby Burnham and Katey Thompson had 16 and 15 kills, respectively, to lead the Newport Harbor High girls’ volleyball team to a 25-23, 25-20, 25-15 win over West Torrance in the second round of the CIF Southern Section Division I-AA playoffs.

Junior Maddy Brown had 10 kills and sophomore Alex Holbrook added six kills for the No. 1-seeded Sailors (26-6), who also had 40 assists from sophomore Cinnamon Sary and 11 digs from senior Kelly Heenan.

Newport Harbor plays at Long Beach Poly in a quarterfinal match Saturday at 7 p.m. The Sailors won in five games at the Jackrabbits’ gym in their season-opener Sept. 10.

GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL

Sage Hill def. Western Christian

UPLAND — Senior outside hitter Lindsey Kish finished with 16 kills, 11 digs and two service aces, as the No. 4-seeded Lightning won, 25-11, 14-25, 25-14, 22-25, 15-12, in the second round of the CIF Southern Section Division IV-AA playoffs Thursday.

Setter Hana Hunt had 36 assists and two aces for the Lightning. Zoe Kreitenberg contributed 16 kills and two blocks.

Sage Hill (15-11) advanced to the quarterfinals and will play at Viewpoint of Calabasas on Saturday at 7 p.m. The Lightning defeated Viewpoint (15-3) at the Chadwick Tournament Oct. 31.

GIRLS’ TENNIS

Corona del Mar 17, Moorpark 1

CORONA DEL MAR — The top doubles team of Kelli Feeley and Azadeh Nazemi improved to 29-1 on the season after helping the No. 4-seeded Sea Kings in the first round of the CIF Southern Section Division I playoffs Thursday.

Melissa Matsuoka and Hailey Hogan won their respective singles sets for CdM (19-1).

The Sea Kings advanced to the second round and will play Northwood on Saturday. The home site will be determined by a coin flip.

CdM has reached the Division I section championship in each of the last three years.

NEWPORT BEACH — Junior Rebecca Arnold swept at No. 2 singles dropping just two games in the Sailors’ CIF Southern Section Division II first-round win Thursday.

Freshman Samantha Stalder swept at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-3, 6-0, while the No. 1 doubles team of sophomores Christina Young and Ricki Archie also swept, 6-1, 6-1, 6-2.

Juniors Alex Aiello and Riley Mathies swept at No. 2 doubles, 6-0, 6-4, 6-1, for Newport Harbor (15-4), which will play against Arcadia in the second round Saturday at 2 p.m. at a site to be determined by a coin toss.

Sage Hill 14, Norwalk 4

NEWPORT BEACH — Sophomore Katie Bick swept at No. 2 singles, dropping just one game for the No. 2-seeded Lightning in the first round of the CIF Southern Section Division IV playoffs Thursday at The Tennis Club.

Sophomore Rian and junior Devyn Billingsley, the No. 1 doubles team, swept at love, while senior Julia Blakeley won twice at love before being substituted out for Sage Hill (14-8).

The Lightning will play against La Serna Saturday at 2 p.m. at a site to be determined by a coin toss.
