Locals compete in home meet

Just a short while ago, four Huntington Beach Divers were competitive gymnasts. Now they are preparing for the annual dive meet at their home pool, Belmont Plaza Olympic Pool in Long Beach, starting Friday.

McCormick Divers is headed by Huntington Beach resident Debby McCormick. Huntington Beach High School sophomore, Amy Loschiavo started diving because her little brother, Dwyer Middle School sixth-grader Brandon, wanted to give it a try. Just over three months since they started, the two are excited to compete in their first dive meet at their training pool. Amy Loschiavo will go on to be Huntington Beach High’s sole dive team competitor, hoping to join club team members at CIF championships in the spring.

Goldenview Elementary fourth-grader Jacqueline Cleugh is now a veteran diver competing in her second Glenn McCormick Memorial meet in the 9-and-under age group.

They are very excited to join their teammates to open the official dive season on their home turf where McCormick Divers have trained since the pool opened in 1968.

The Glenn McCormick Memorial Dive Meet attracts divers from all over Southern California, Arizona, Nevada, Oregon, New Mexico and Texas.
