Police have released two people who were arrested early Sunday in Costa Mesa on suspicion of burglarizing a vehicle and driving a stolen car.

Christopher Anderson, 23, and a 17-year-old boy, both from Santa Ana, were arrested at 5:20 a.m. after Costa Mesa police followed them from a local apartment complex where they were seen looking into empty cars, Sgt. Bryan Wadkins said.

The two were seen driving in the Avalon at South Coast apartment complex, 555 Paularino Ave., Sunday morning when police received a call of suspicious activity, Wadkins said. Police saw the two pulling out of the area in a car matching the description given to them, he said.

Police followed the car and pulled the men over in Santa Ana. The car had been reported stolen there, and officers found evidence inside linked to a vehicle burglary in Costa Mesa earlier that morning.

The two were booked on suspicion of burglary and auto theft but later released without bail, police said. It is not clear whether charges will be filed against them.
