Ocean View to host Midnight Madness

Ocean View High will host a Midnight Madness from 10 p.m. to midnight Friday at the Ocean View gym. Admission is $2 at the door, and pizza and other snacks will be available for purchase.

There will also be a CIF ring ceremony for the boys’ basketball team, which last year won the CIF Southern Section Division IV-AA title and advanced to the CIF State Division III championship game in Sacramento.

Nogueira soccer Freshman of Year

Stanford freshman Mariah Nogueira, a Marina High product, has been named the Pac-10 women’s soccer freshman of the year and was also selected to the conference’s first team.

Nogueira, a midfielder, has five goals and five assists this season for the No. 1-ranked Cardinal (22-0-0).

She has played in all 22 games.

Stanford plays host to Santa Clara in the third round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday.

Golden West College to host state tourney

Golden West College is playing host to the 2009 California Community College Water Polo State Championships, which begin today.

Golden West’s men, the defending state champions, are the top-seeded team from Southern California and play SoCal No. 3 Riverside today at 3 p.m.

The Rustlers women are the No. 3 seed from Southern California and they face Foothill in their first match at 9 a.m. Friday.

The men’s championship is scheduled for noon Saturday, with the women’s title match to follow at 1:30 p.m.

Tickets are $8 for a day pass or $20 for a three-day tournament pass.

Parking is available in Lot A at Golden West, on the corner of McFadden Avenue and Goldenwest Street.

Rustlers earn bowl berth

The Golden West College football team has been selected to play in the Orange County Bowl, held at 6 p.m. Saturday at Orange Coast College.

Golden West (6-4), the American Mountain Conference runner-up, will face Ventura College (7-3).
