Dailey a first-teamer

Yale senior Cat Dailey, a former Sage Hill School standout, recently earned first-team All-Ivy League honors in women’s volleyball.

Dailey, the 2008 Ivy League Player of the Year, was one of three unanimous selections to the All-Ivy League first team, after leading the Bulldogs to a second-place finish in the league, with an 11-3 record.

She was one of two players to rank in the top 10 in kills and hitting percentage, swinging at a .266 clip with 3.98 kills per set. Dailey also led the league in aces with 0.37 per frame and chipped in defensively with 3.61 digs per set.

Dailey was one of five Bulldogs to earn All-Ivy League recognition, which marks the most for a Yale team in program history. Also at 21-4, the Bulldogs set the program record for winning percentage (.840) and notched consecutive 20-wins season for the first time since 1995-96.

“This team is full of contributors,” Dailey said in a press release. “Our entire team, coaches and players alike, deserve recognition for having five players on the All-Ivy team.”

Hultman earns honor

Fordham junior Ryan Hultman, a Corona del Mar High product, was recently named to the Collegiate Water Polo Assn. All-North second team.

Hultman had a solid season, eclipsing the 30-goal plateau for the third straight season. He entered the Eastern Championship with 30 goals and 11 assists for 41 points, while adding 18 steals and eight multi-goal games. During the regular season, he earned both the CWPA and NCAA.com Player of the Week award for the week of Oct. 14, after tallying a career-high nine goals against Queens College.

Hultman helped lead the Rams to a share of the regular-season CWPA Northern Division title, as well as a runner-up finish at the Northern Division Championship. The Rams also made their first appearance at the Eastern Championship in over 20 years.

Fordham was fifth at the Eastern Championship, its highest finish in 22 years, as the Rams had not qualified for the championship since 1987.

Fordham beat Brown, 8-7, in the fifth-place match. It was the Rams’ first win over Brown since 1980.
