Police seeking man who assaulted boy

Police are seeking the public’s help in locating a man who sexually assaulted a teenage boy at the Dunes RV Resort in Newport Beach last week.

About 5:45 p.m. Friday, police said a 15-year-old went to the men’s restroom in the park, when he was attacked by a man. The boy was alone and had noticed the man sitting on the picnic table outside the restroom before the attack, said Newport Beach Police Sgt. Mark Hamilton. The man followed the boy in and sexually assaulted him before the boy fought him off and got away and called police, Hamilton said.

The attacker is described as a white male, between 20 and 30 years old, 5-foot-10, 180 pounds with an upside-down triangle shaped beard on his chin, wearing a black hooded sweat shirt, khaki cargo pants, brown leather belt, silver ring and black gloves.

Police said the victim did not know his attacker, so the incident appeared random, which is why they’re alerting the public.

If anyone has any information about the suspect, or has experienced a similar crime, they’re urged to call police at (800) 550-NBPD or the detective’s division at (949) 644-3790. Tips can be left anonymously.
