What could have been a Thanksgiving catastrophe for one Newport Beach family was avoided thanks to the quick work of the Newport Beach Fire Department.

About 3 a.m. Thursday, firefighters were called to a home on Longboat street in Newport Coast.

A Mercedes Benz CLK 550 was engulfed in flames just in front of the 10,000-square-foot home.

The fire did not spread to the house, but charred the outside of the home’s garage, officials said.

“It really wasn’t a big deal but it had the potential to be,” said Battalion Chief Chip Duncan.

The family was home, but no one was injured, Duncan said.

Investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire and the estimated damage to the car and home.

Nineteen firefighters responded to the blaze, officials said.
