Green Cube opens today in Laguna

Green Cube, the newest concept store by Sanja Simidzija (owner of Laguna’s Art Cube Gallery and Upside Down Boutique), will open its doors at 10 a.m. today at 264 Forest Ave., the former Laguna Fine Art Gallery location. The store specializes in items made with organic and recycled materials and designed, constructed and consumed with sustainability of the planet in mind.

“Green living had been merely a novelty for so many years, but it is now entering mainstream society,” said Simidzija. “We want to help consumers achieve an eco-friendly world without having to sacrifice on comfort, style and design.”

I.D.E.A. is the acronym Simidzija uses to summarize the theme for Green Cube; innovation, design, education and art. Through products that reflect these elements and monthly educational events, Green Cube plans to instigate the evolution of eco-friendly living in the community.

Green Cube will carry a variety of products that one would find in their home.

Half of the merchandise will be recycled art and sustainable furniture, 20% will be clothing made with organic materials and the remainder will be home and personal accessories and bath and body products.

Local artists Micha Von Doring, Randal Reid and Elizabeth Healey will be represented in the new store, as well as products by eco-friendly brands such as Artecnica, Mika Organics and Aaron Kramer.

Green Cube will also donate a percentage of sales to a host of nonprofit organizations in support of the environment.

A reception with the featured artists will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. today, and organic chocolate truffles will be served.

Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
