Moral Of The Story:

“No longer is God a stranger, but a friend, a father, One who delights to have us talk to Him and open the whole of our lives to Him.”

— Michael Green

Taking our 2-year-old grandson James on errands is always enjoyable and entertaining. He also happens to be adorable, and people are drawn to him. Recently we were at the bank, and the teller was particularly enchanted by him. She looked at him, smiled and said, “James, you are just a doll.” James frowned and said quite sternly, “No I’m not! I’m not a doll, I’m real!” The bank teller recovered quickly and complimented James on being a very real and very wonderful little boy.

On the way to the car I explained to James what the woman had meant by her expression. He seemed to understand, but felt the need to remind me, and others, throughout our morning together that he was real.

Many people forget that God is real too. There are people who think God is real, but think of Him as distant, uncaring and harsh.

The truth is, God is a loving heavenly father who longs to be an intimate and integral part of our lives. I thoroughly enjoy hearing what James is thinking and feeling, and it’s humbling to think that God is delighted to hear from me.

I will happily enjoy any time I get to spend with our grandchildren but there are always limits to time with loved ones. The good news is that we all have access to a loving God who longs to share all of our lives all of the time.

And you can quote me on that.
